Cache County Council Board of Canvassers Meeting – 07-06-2026

- The Board of Canvassers reviewed the 2026 Republican primary election results and heard a detailed report from County Clerk Bryson Bem on turnout, audit results, ballot processing, and reconciliation. He reported the audit was successful and the election was fully reconciled with no discrepancies. - County-wide turnout for the Republican primary was 36.2%, with 14,636 ballots counted out of 40,465 active Republican voters. Of those ballots, 14,427 were mailed in, 43 were early in-person, and 147 were cast on election day. - The clerk reported 5 UOCAVA ballots were counted, 15 provisional ballots were issued, and 14 provisional ballots were counted. One provisional ballot was not counted because the voter was unaffiliated and therefore not eligible to open that ballot under the applicable process. - The office processed 307 challenged ballots, with 48 rejected; staff were able to cure most ballot issues, resulting in a low rejection rate for curable ballots. Bem also noted staff used multiple outreach methods to contact voters about signature or identification issues. - Reported countywide race results showed Blake Moore leading Carrie Ann Visby, 8,650 to 5,807, and Jay Brett Chambers leading Dane Murray in the county attorney race, 8,381 to 6,035. - Council members asked questions about ballot return methods and early-voting turnout, including the share of ballots returned via drop boxes versus mail. Bem said drop boxes remain widely used and that all cities are required by state code to have one. - The council expressed appreciation for election staff, especially Michelle Stenger and Kyla Doyle, for their work in completing the election efficiently despite being down one full-time staff member. - The Board unanimously voted to certify the 2026 Republican primary election. - The meeting concluded with signing the certification paperwork and a unanimous vote to adjourn.
